  FAQs

Can I nominate someone?

As long as you are over 18 and an Australian resident you can nominate someone.

Who can I nominate?

You can nominate any Australian children’s service worker for an award. Both qualified and unqualified carers and directors in the community, private or family day care sectors are eligible.

You can also nominate any Australian approved children’s service provider for a Team Award. This includes long day care centres, family day care schemes, occasional care centres, crèches, kindergartens, preschools and outside school hours care.

Can I nominate more than one person?

You can nominate as many carers or directors as you believe deserve an award.

If you want to nominate a group of carers working together, you can nominate them for a Team Award - the Australian Children’s Service of the Year.

Can I nominate myself?

Yes, if you are an Australian children’s service worker.

How do I know which category to nominate someone in?

Generally, only directors of children’s services, head teachers of kindergartens or preschools or coordinators of family day care schemes are eligible for the Director of the Year Award.

Nominations in the Rising Star category are limited to carers aged 23 years or under as at 29.03.09.

All other individual carers should be entered in the Child Care Worker of the Year category.

Groups of carers who work together should be entered in the Children’s Service of the Year Award.

Where can I get a nomination form?

Complete a nomination online here.

Alternatively, you can download the appropriate nomination form from the following options:

How can I enter the nominator’s competition to win Fisher-Price toys?

Answer the last question on the nomination form “What does the rest of Australia need to know about child care?” in 50 words or less, and return the completed nomination form by the closing date, 12th March 2010 (12.03.10).

Do I have to answer all the questions on the nomination form?

All questions are compulsory except for the “Testimonial/References section” and the nominator’s competition to win Fisher-Price toys, both of which are optional.

What if I want to provide more information to support my nomination?

With the exception of testimonials or references by your nominee’s manager or by other parents, we do not encourage you to provide additional information. Nominations will be judged purely on the answers to the questions on the nomination forms, which should be answered within 400 words each.

What is the deadline to send in a nomination?

Nominations close at 5pm on 12th March, 2010 (12.03.10).

What is the judging process?

  1. Every nomination form is read and assessed by representatives of the Australian Family Child Care Awards.
  2. State Finalists are shortlisted based on the content of the nomination forms, and are then invited to submit further information.
  3. These submissions are assessed by the Judging Panel, and the State Winners are selected.
  4. State Winners are then invited to attend an interview with members of the Judging Panel and National Winners are selected.

What are the prizes?

Every nominee will receive a certificate*.

State Winners will receive Fisher-Price toys for their children's service, a framed certificate and will be invited to attend the Awards celebration in Sydney including airfares and accommodation for two nights and a special pamper package including spa treatment and beauty products.

The four National Winners will receive all the above, plus industry training valued at $4,000 each, a $1,000 travel voucher, and a crystal trophy.

* Please note that name and address details used to print and post certificates are based on the information provided on the nomination form and we cannot guarantee certificates will be received by the nominee if such information is incorrect or incomplete.

When will the winners be announced?

State Winners will be announced on 20th April 2010.

National Winners will be announced at the Awards Ceremony on 30th April 2010
